DOS vs. Windows
The Truth Revealed!
Since personal computers have
emerged in small businesses, Microsoft DOS had been most stable and
inexpensive operating system for POS. Some people still claim that
DOS is the most stable POS system. However, this is not true. Windows
2000 and Windows XP are both far more stable than DOS from the inside
out. Mainly due
to the fact that the computer systems today are designed for Windows,
not DOS.
Using a Windows System with your POS System brings four significant
advantages.
-
Stability - Built on the proven
reliability of Windows 2000 and Windows XP, the Dry Touch Program is
able to run more reliably and more efficiently. Meaning
less errors, fewer glitches, meaning less hassle.
-
Ease-of-Use - Windows is a Graphic
User Interface which makes it a lot easier to manage your inventory.
You get more control, simpler ease-of-use, and more power.
-
Ability - Since
Windows 2000/XP is a true 32-bit Operating System, it has more variety
of softwares. Meaning you can do MORE! Easily add another
program that meets your other needs, like Quickbook or Excel.
-
Networkable - Windows allows
you to connect more than one computer to the Dry Touch Program.
This gives more access and usability for any store.
While Windows proves to have more advantages
over DOS, it does have one disadvantage: Boot-Up Time. Microsoft
Windows take more time starting up than DOS. If for any reason you
should reboot, it'll take about 14 seconds longer to load up than the
traditional DOS system.
Conclusion: Although DOS loads up
faster than Windows, it causes more problems and limited use.
Think about this, Windows may take 14 seconds longer, but DOS creates so
many problems that eventually it takes more time away than Windows.
The choice is clear. Regardless of what other POS Retailers say,
Microsoft Windows 32-Bit Operating System can't be beaten.
